PARAMOUNT : Public Warned of Missing Radioactive Soil Test Gauge

Share

Despite careful searches of a route taken by a county truck, a soil test gauge remained missing Thursday and officials warned that anyone who finds it could be exposed to radiation if it is damaged.

The bright-orange gauge, about 14 inches long by 8 inches wide, contains radioactive material and is labeled with a nuclear radiation logo, said Donna Guyovich of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works.

Anyone finding it should call 911 immediately, Guyovich said.

A worker last saw the gauge in the 1500 block of Alcazar Street in Los Angeles about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. It was discovered missing about an hour later while the driver was on Orange Avenue, where it dead-ends at the Glenn Anderson Freeway in Paramount.

From Alcazar Street, the driver went south on Soto Street, east on the San Bernardino Freeway, south on the Long Beach Freeway, east on Rosecrans Avenue and north onto Orange Avenue.
