Ribbon May Be Out, but Disease Is Not
“A Cause for Concern” (March 30) stated that the once-popular AIDS ribbon is becoming passe. I realize that you are just reporting the news. However, I take exception to Gary Jabara’s comment that only die-hards and activists still wear them. I am neither. I am a 62-year-old mother who lost her son this past Jan. 31. He had AIDS.
I have worn my pin for almost three years and continue to do so because I think the public needs to be constantly aware of this horrendous disease. In my 62 years, I have never seen anything like it. These things may be passe to some, but I’m sure millions of people including myself still realize their significance.
