THOUSAND OAKS : 4 Musicals Proposed in Civic Arts Contract

Share

Four major Broadway musicals will swing through Thousand Oaks during the next 13 months under a proposed contact before the City Council on Tuesday.

The contract calls for the Kansas City-based Theater League to produce “Cats” in September, “Les Miserables” in December, “The Goodbye Girl” in February and “Evita” in May.

Under the contract, the company would pay the city a minimum of $5,000 a week to rent the 1,800-seat Civic Arts Plaza Auditorium for each show, the same rent the company paid this year.

If the city sells more than 5,000 tickets a week to subscribers, the company would pay $1 per subscriber for the weekly rent.

The company would also pay the city $150 per performance for use of the box office.

During the auditorium’s inaugural season, the Theater League produced “A Chorus Line” and “Annie.”

The company is scheduled to present “42nd Street” next month.
