LAGUNA NIGUEL : Planners to Consider Binion Housing Tract

Share

The Planning Commission tonight will consider approval of a proposed 22-lot custom-home subdivision near Monarch Point.

The project is opposed by some south Laguna Beach residents who fear that the new homes will block their view of the ridgeline and cause drainage problems. Also, residents of Monarch Point have raised concerns about increased truck traffic during construction.

The proposed Binion subdivision, named for property owner Jack Binion, is to be situated atop 900-foot hills that overlook the ocean.

Bob Lenard, the city’s director of community development, said that many homes in south Laguna Beach already have inadequate drainage and that any construction would likely make the problem worse.

“There has been concern by some residents who live downstream that the development of the property would increase their flood risk,” Lenard said.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at Laguna Niguel City Council chambers, 27841 La Paz Road.
