COSTA MESA : Girls Inc. Members Tape TV Interviews

Four teen-agers from Girls Inc. of Orange County in Costa Mesa will be featured in an upcoming segment of the ABC-TV news magazine “Prime Time Live,” a coordinator for the youth group said.

Rather than be interviewed by one of the show’s adult anchors, the four young women, all Costa Mesa residents, took over as interviewers for a story on teen-age pregnancy, speaking candidly with five older boys.

“They told us what men talk about when women are not around,” said Jo Gottfried, coordinator of local teen programs for Girls Inc., a national organization that sponsors activities for young women.

Gottfried said the boys discussed tactics they learn from each other to persuade girls to have sex, from giving lots of compliments to pure persistence or seduction.

“They were fantastic,” Gottfried said. “They were great educators.”

The videotape was later shown to a group of younger girls, also affiliated with Girls Inc., to demonstrate the difficulties of such situations and instruct them in ways to avoid them or get out them.
