I was appalled and infuriated when I learned that Harvard University had denied 19-year-old Gina Grant admission. She was tried and convicted by the legal system. She was punished and now she’s being punished again. The justice system, as we know it, specifies there will be no double jeopardy. But Harvard puts itself above that system.

University officials stated her “maturity” and “moral character” were questionable. One has to be pretty mature at a young age to buckle down and be a straight-A student. Then they stated that no lawsuit or public opinion would make them change their mind. I suggest that university officials be questioned about their maturity and maybe deny themselves admission to work each day. ANTHONY JONES

Re “Matricide and Harvard” by Joe Mathews, Opinion, April 16:

Gina Grant didn’t shoplift, she killed someone. Does only Harvard’s admissions department understand the difference?
