CYPRESS : City Opposes Tighter State Housing Control

Share

The City Council has denounced a proposed state law that would put stricter requirements on affordable housing in all cities.

The state’s current regulations for affordable housing require each city to have detailed “housing element plans” overseen by the state Department of Housing and Community Development.

Senate Bill 1073, currently before the Legislature, calls for tightening housing-goal requirements on cities and for increasing the Department of Housing and Community Development’s authority over cities.

The League of California Cities has urged all cities to oppose the legislation, contending that the state should not have more power over local housing. The Cypress City Council, at its meeting Monday, approved a resolution that supports the statewide league’s effort to kill the bill.
