On Friday, it’s moonlight dancing on the grass with Zaca Creek, probably the only country-rock band from the Santa Barbara area to hit the national radio charts. About four years ago, the band’s second album, “Broken Heartland,” produced three Top 50 singles, including “Fly Me South” and “Two Wheel Pony.”

Count on plenty of dance music from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday with the Simi Valley band, Cactus County. Expect Top 40 country tunes with rich harmony vocals and a pedal steel sound.

Performing from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday are the Rhythm Rangers, local favorites popular on the club scene with such originals as “Alaska Boogie.”

Local bands Darlene O’Connell & the Dixie Flyers (Canyon Country), Larry Dean and the Shooters (Calabasas), the Rhythm Rangers (Ventura) and Spaghetti Western (Santa Barbara) have been invited to perform on the prestigious “New Faces Showcase Stage” at Fanfest. These bands are among 57 chosen from hundreds nationwide that submitted tapes.

Fanfest is the largest annual country music event on the West Coast--three days of continuous performances by country music stars, with autograph and photo opportunities, more than 500 display booths and fan club meetings. It is scheduled for May 5 to 7 at the Los Angeles County Fair complex in Pomona. For ticket information: (310) 358-0900.

You can try winning passes to Fanfest by entering the Tush Push contest at the Ban-Dar in Ventura tonight and May 4. KTND radio will send four men and four women to the Fanfest finals.
