The FBI and military investigators arrested an Oceanside man Thursday in connection with the fatal shooting Wednesday of a 14-year-old girl.

Katrina M. Cabal was shot in the chest at her home, U.S. Marine Corps officials said. Paramedics went to the house where the girl lived with her father, Sgt. Winston M. Cabal, and transported her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Henrico Bautista Dela-Cruz , 20, was arrested Thursday by FBI and military investigators on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, booked at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in San Diego and later arraigned before a federal magistrate.

Magistrate Judge Cynthia G. Aron ordered Dela-Cruz held without bail until a May 2 detention hearing.

Dela-Cruz was described by base officials as a friend of Katrina Cabal’s older sister. He was handling a .25-caliber pistol when it discharged, striking the teen-ager, authorities said.
