DURAN DEVINE

It must really be an imperfect world when an album as good as Duran Duran’s latest, “Thank You,” receives a review like that penned by Chris Willman (Record Rack, April 16).

The album’s songs are energetic, stylish, soulful and masterfully performed, and they’re as good a tribute to the original artists who performed them as any that I can think of. More importantly, though, throughout the album Duran Duran’s own original creativity and versatility shines through all the material performed. The songs on the album are not just “remakes” but refreshing revivifications.

I think that Dennis Hunt’s Real McCoy review was a bit harsh. I will admit they did really copy a lot of stuff off Ace of Base and C+C Music Factory, especially “Love and Devotion” that instantly made me think of Ace of Base’s original masterpiece “All That She Wants,” but to say that the songs that were not hits were plain awful is wrong. Real McCoy may not be destined to be legends, but they do have talent.
