CITY TERRACE : Celebrities to Star at Club Fund-Raiser

The Salesian Boys and Girls Club will present its annual Awards of Excellence Dinner to honor people who work to improve the lives of youth.

The May 11 event at the Hotel Inter-Continental, 251 S. Olive St., is the 29-year-old club’s biggest fund-raiser of the year. The theme for the event is “Celebrate Our Creative Spirit.” Artwork created by members of the club will be displayed during the benefit.

This year, the Lifetime Achievement Award will go to artist Ignacio Gomez. Actor Hector Elizondo will receive the arts and entertainment award, the Fox TV network will receive the club’s corporate award, and community activist Manuel Rojas, owner of El Tepeyac restaurant, will receive the service award.

The Salesian Boys and Girls Club, at 3218 Wabash Ave., offers supervised recreation, arts and crafts, a computer learning center, aerobics and dance classes for 200 to 300 youths between the ages of 6 to 18 every day.Tickets are $125 per person. Special sponsorship packages are also available.
