A Pain They All Share

Capturing the pain of the Vietnamese was easy for photographer Bill Short. “Everything I needed,” he says, “was on the surface.” By photographing his subjects just after they were interviewed, he caught faces living the agony of survival; faces so haunted by painful memories that sorrow has become a permanent feature. The photographs will be included in a book Short’s wife, journalist Willa Seidenberg, and he have already titled “Memories of the American War: Stories From Vietnam.”
