Ford, Toyota Report Sales Gains for April: The gains defied the industry pattern for April, a month for which the companies’ competitors reported slower sales compared to a year ago. Ford Motor Co.’s car and light-truck deliveries were up 3.6% from April, 1994. Toyota Motor Corp., the largest foreign-based company in the United States, said its sales per day for the month were 2.1% higher compared to a year ago. Ford and Toyota waited until Wednesday, the third business day after the month’s end, which means their totals were more likely to include complete numbers from last weekend.
