Teachers in the Garden Grove Unified School District recently received almost $5,700 from a semi-annual grant program sponsored by Disneyland, a district spokesman said.

Twenty-nine teachers received grants worth as much as $200 as part of the Disneyland Fine Arts Partnership Program, which is designed to pay for programs and materials that directly help students in the visual and performing arts. Since the program’s inception in 1992, local schools have received more than $22,000, district spokesman Alan Trudell said.

With their grants, some elementary school teachers plan to buy materials to build marionettes and produce a dance festival, while a Garden Grove High School class will use its funds to buy a sound-effects mixer, he said.

The grants are part of a partnership program linking Disneyland with six local school districts including Garden Grove Unified. The program offers students special art lessons and cultural assemblies, Trudell said.
