Mexico’s Inflation Rate Up Sharply in April: The consumer price index rose 8.0% in April--more than inflation for the whole of 1994--taking price increases so far this year to an accumulated 23.66%, Banco de Mexico said. Authorities attributed the increase to Mexico’s economic crisis that continued to feed through into prices on the street. The government of President Ernesto Zedillo says it expects 1995 inflation to soar to 42% compared to just 7% last year.
