Some of the key events Wednesday in the O.J. Simpson murder trial:

* SUMMARY: A prosecution expert spent the day reviewing DNA test results that the government attorneys say link Simpson to the scene of the June 12 murders. Blood drops from the scene of the crime and from Simpson’s house contain identical genetic markers to Simpson and the victims, the witness said, helping establish the prosecution’s so-called trail of blood.

* WITNESSES: Robin Cotton, director of the Maryland-based Cellmark Diagnostics DNA laboratory, spent the entire day on the stand, her third day testifying. Wednesday was the first time she testified about actual results of evidence testing, and she told the jury about four samples of particular importance. According to Cotton: Blood found near the bodies matches segments of Simpson’s DNA, as does blood from Simpson’s foyer; stains on socks discovered in his bedroom match Nicole Simpson’s blood, and blood found on Ronald Goldman’s boot could be a mixture of his and Nicole Simpson’s.

* COMING UP: Cotton returns for more testimony today. She is expected to begin testifying about the statistical significance of DNA matches today or tomorrow.

“When you review the DNA bands that are visible . . . in each case they are consistent with the pattern that is visible in Mr. Simpson’s bands.”

--Cotton, describing tests of a blood drop found near the bodies of the two victims
