Not a Single Hair Out of Place

The makeup palettes in “Sugar Shock” (Spring Beauty, Style, April 2) were colorfully inspired. I find it hard to believe, however, that every single strand of hair on the model’s forehead would remain in exactly the same place while every makeup product on her face was being changed. Clearly the color (including her iris) was laid down by computer, wasn’t it? How about ‘fessing up?

How can you write captions beneath two photos of the same image mentioning completely different brands of makeup, from foundation to mascara, when it’s obvious that the model was not scrubbed and remade between shots? I think the truth-in-advertising angle got lost amid the digital retouching technology.

Editor’s Note: The cosmetics listed in the photo captions were intended only as suggestions for readers interested in reproducing spring’s new pastel palettes. They do not necessarily represent what the pictured model was wearing. As you point out, the photographs on those pages are computer-enhanced versions of the same picture--a conscious decision to illustrate how different colors can create dramatically different looks on the same woman.
