Kodak Seeks U.S. Help in Japanese Market: The photo products company has turned to the government again for help to compete with rival Fuji Photo Film Co., this time in Japan. Rochester, N.Y.-based Eastman Kodak Co. said it has invested $750 million in the past decade to develop a market presence in Japan, yet its products can be found in just 15% of film retail shops there. In a petition to the government, Kodak said that “systematic denial” of access to distribution channels has kept its film and paper products from reaching Japanese consumers. Under the Trade Act of 1974, U.S. companies can ask the government to intervene to open foreign markets.
