Lewis N. Unger; Former Senior Assistant in City Attorney’s Office
Lewis N. Unger, 54, retired senior assistant attorney of Los Angeles and the first head of the Police-Fire Services Division of the Los Angeles city attorney’s office. Unger joined the office in 1978 and in 1985 was named to head the newly formed police-fire unit, which defended lawsuits involving policies and practices of the Police and Fire departments. His unit also had responsibility for guidelines governing the Los Angeles Police Department’s Anti-Terrorist Division. He retired to Sonoma County in 1989, where he died May 13 of a respiratory infection.
