SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Oxnard is not exactly a center for world trade, but Jana Goldsworthy thinks that it’s about time that people thought of Ventura County in global terms.

Executive director of the California Central Coast World Trade Center in Oxnard, Goldsworthy took advantage of World Trade Week last week to have her say on the subject. The more people who are aware of the value of world trade, she figures, the better it will be for the local economy.

“World trade is critical to the economic development of this region,” Goldsworthy said. “We have a tremendous amount of assets and resources in this area.”

She pointed to the deep-water port in Port Hueneme and the large quantity of exportable products produced in the county.

“Agricultural products, biomedical technology, clothing, sportswear, industrial products. They all have a place in the international marketplace,” she said. “The market is so heavily saturated locally and domestically that a lot of good, successful companies in recent years have started in on the international markets. By doing this, they have been given opportunities to continue growing and to sustain their business.”
