Key Chip Indicator Slips: An important measure of the health of the semiconductor industry declined in April, a trade group said, but was still much stronger than in April of last year. April’s preliminary book-to-bill ratio for semiconductor equipment production decreased to 1.23 from a revised 1.29 in March, the trade group Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International said. It said shipments last month increased 53% to $936 million from April, 1994, based on figures from North American semiconductor equipment makers. The ratio measures sales and shipments of equipment used in the production of semiconductors.
