‘Geronimo’

Share

Written by J.T. Allen and directed by Roger Young, this 1993 TNT version of the Apache chief who died in 1909 is told solely from Geronimo’s perspective. We first meet him in 1905 as an old man (Jimmy Herman), a virtual prisoner of war in Florida and still a celebrity artifact wrapped in his own legend. As a teen-age horse thief he is played by Ryan Black, as a vengeful mature man by Joseph Runningfox (pictured). The film never provides context for the Mexican army’s anti-Apache violence but does a better job explaining the Apache-U.S. conflict and the dishonorable motives behind the U.S. government’s exile of these Native Americans to reservations (TNT Sunday at 3 p.m.).
