Triplets: The Up Side of Raising ‘Multiples’

While Adrian Maher’s story “Triple Treat” certainly reflected the parenting challenge that raising multiples presents, it did not point out that there really is light at the end of the tunnel. Those first few years seem interminable, but they do fly by, and they provide fodder for fabulous photo albums and family tales.

Having 17-year-old triplets who attend three different Westside public high schools, I am triply reaping the benefits of their successful arrival at that other end of the tunnel. Raising them was exhausting, and it was the most wonderful experience of my life! I have cherished every moment with our three.

Support groups like the one led by Jeanne Herman provide an invaluable service to parents of multiples. That was the reason for my creating the Multiple Birth Parenting Program at Stephen Wise Temple Parenting Center nine years ago. In fact, Jeanne Herman was a group member in one of the first groups I led. Luckily, she is passing on the support to others in our community.
