VW Expects Its Auto Production to Double: Volkswagen anticipates the growth to happen within two years, a rate that would be faster than the growth of China’s car market and a big jump for a company already making 60% of the cars there. The company’s two joint ventures in China last year produced about 147,000 cars from plants in the eastern port city of Shanghai and the northern city of Changchun, said Klaus Luttmann, senior manager of sales in Beijing for Volkswagen. This year, total output will rise to between 202,000 and 215,000 units. Luttmann sees that increasing a further 45% in 1996 to about 315,000 units.
