U.S. and Japan to Resume Auto Trade Talks: The two nations will resume stalled talks over U.S. access to the Japanese auto market June 22-23 in Geneva, said Ryutaro Hashimoto, Japan’s minister of international trade and industry. Talks under the auspices of the World Trade Organization will take place simultaneously with talks between the two governments. The Clinton Administration will decide June 28 whether to slap 100% tariffs on imports of Japanese luxury cars in retaliation for Tokyo’s failure to meet U.S. demands for increased access to the auto market there.
