PICO-UNION : Group for Daughters of Alcoholics to Meet

Women who are the children of alcoholics, some of whom are recovering alcoholics themselves, have a chance to air their frustrations at the Alcoholism Center for Women.

“What About Me?” is a two-hour discussion session that is being held at the center on Tuesday nights through the end of the month.

Women who have learned to put the well-being of alcoholic family members before their own can voice concerns, receive support from peers, learn the importance of looking after their own needs and learn how they can make necessary lifestyle changes.

“As children of alcoholics, they have learned only to take care of others,” said Carolyn Ritter, lead prevention specialist for the center. “This is about looking out for No. 1, and putting yourself first.”

The discussion groups meet from 7 to 9 p.m. at the center, 1147 S. Alvarado St. A donation of $5 is requested, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds, Ritter said.
