Pardee Construction Co. will ask the Camarillo Planning Commission tonight to approve the construction of 361 homes in two planned communities in the central and eastern areas of the city.

The first project calls for the construction of 265 single-family houses on 88 acres north of Las Posas Road and Lantana Street. It will feature one- and two-story homes ranging in size from 1,759 to 3,082 square feet.

The project includes a seven-acre park and each unit will feature room for parking recreational vehicles, said Matthew Boden, the city’s director of planning and community development.

The 88-acre parcel currently is used for strawberry farming, and some nearby residents have expressed concerns about converting the land from agricultural purposes to a residential development.

“That would be their primary concern, judging from the letters we have received,” Boden said. “But when the city annexed the property in 1991, it was designated for rural and low-density development. This proposal meets that criteria.”

The second proposal calls for the construction of 96 single-family homes on 21 acres near Mission Oaks Boulevard and Adolfo Road in the city’s Mission Oaks area. The one- and two-story houses, ranging in size from 1,609 to 2,729 square feet, will feature three-car garages and recreational vehicle parking.

The Planning Commission will consider the projects at its 7:30 p.m. meeting at City Hall, 601 Carmen Drive.
