Insurance Applicants to Be Given More Information: Consumers seeking coverage will be told when information from a reporting agency was a factor in denial of coverage or higher rates. Under an agreement to take effect Oct. 2 between the Federal Trade Commission and MIB Inc., the principal U.S. consumer insurance reporting agency, insurers also must give applicants the name and address of the agency providing the report and must tell applicants that they are entitled to a free copy if they request it within 30 days. An FTC official said the changes will bring Westwood, Mass.-based MIB’s 700 member companies into compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
