Adobe Acquires a Rival: The Mountain View, Calif.-based software maker said it intends to buy San Jose-based software maker Frame Technology Corp. in a stock swap valued at $500 million. Adobe Systems Inc. also said its fiscal second-quarter earnings nearly doubled to $33.9 million on strong sales of its electronic publishing software. Adobe, known for PostScript, the industry standard for desktop publishing programs, said Frame will strengthen its presence in the UNIX market. UNIX is the computer language used by engineers and scientists on workstation machines.
