And coming soon to South Gate: a 12- to 16-screen movie theater and retail complex near the city’s Towne Center shopping plaza.
South Gate’s Community Development Department has received $475,000 in federal Economic Development Initiative funds and $2.37 million in loan guarantees from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to help finance construction of the proposed 245,000-square-foot complex.
Andrew G. Pasmant, South Gate’s director of community development, said the grant and loan guarantees will help the city draw the private investors it needs to get construction of the project going by next year.
