WORLD IN BRIEF : INDIA : State Officials May Kill Power Project
Local authorities are considering canceling India’s largest foreign investment, a power plant in the western state of Maharashtra, newspapers have reported. The outcome of the case involving a U.S. consortium led by Enron Development Corp. is being watched closely by investors as a guide to what India will and won’t do to attract Western investment. The Times of India and the Economic Times reported Wednesday that a panel set up by Maharashtra’s newly elected government has recommended abandoning the $2.8-billion project.
