Album Reviews : * Better Than Ezra, “Deluxe,” Elektra.

Earthier than Green Day and spunkier than the Smithereens, Louisiana’s Better Than Ezra spins bold power-pop with a quivering, poignant edge. But as appealing as the group’s sultry-yet-feisty sound is, the songwriting seems stale after the first two tracks. Radio hits “In the Blood” and “Good” are the strongest cuts--as deluxe as this debut gets.
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
