The 55 Across clue in the June 25 “Talking Trash” Puzzler reads: “Johnny Mercer hit.” But the five-letter answer, MISTY, was a Johnny Burke hit (written along with Erroll Garner).

Anyway, kudos to Barry Tunick and Sylvia Bursztyn for their continuous right-on cleverness.

As an avid fan who loves the precision of Tunick and Bursztyn’s clues even more than their whimsical sense of humor, I was aghast at the answer to 89 Across (“He may sign your John Hancock”) last Sunday.

Although a FORGER has the ability (can) to sign my John Hancock, I certainly wouldn’t give him my permission (may). Would you?ANNA DEVORE
