A Simi Valley Rotary club donated $25,000 to 18 charities at a breakfast meeting Thursday.
The American Cancer Society, the Boys & Girls Club and the Simi Valley Police Reserves received $2,500 each from the community group. The Boy Scouts of America, Rancho Simi Recreation and Parks District and the Simi Valley Council on Aging each received $2,000. Other community groups received smaller amounts.
The 60 members of the Rotary Club of Simi Sunrise raised the money by holding golf tournaments and a Cajun-Creole music festival.
“We get a lot of requests for help. We try to decide who has the biggest need and the most benefit for our dollar,” club President Dick Strayer said.
