Nation IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : 2 Slain by Abortion Foe Are Remembered
More than 100 people gathered at a church to remember the volunteer and doctor gunned down by an anti-abortion protester outside a Pensacola clinic a year ago. With tears and laughter, friends and relatives recalled James Barrett, 74, as being courageous, dedicated and funny. Barrett and his wife, who escorted patients past protesters, had just arrived at the clinic when the gunman opened fire. June Barrett was wounded in the attack. Her husband was slain along with Dr. John Bayard Britton, 69. Britton, who wore a bulletproof vest, was shot in the head. Former minister Paul Hill, 41, awaits execution for the slayings.
