Still Crazy in Love After All These Years

Share

I have the L.A. Times Sunday edition delivered mainly because it is a good newspaper and I want the TV guide and my wife likes the crossword puzzle.

However, while pawing through July 23 issue, I passed the Life & Style section and caught a glimpse of a heading called “Happily Married . . . or Just Nuts?” by Robin Abcarian.

It is obvious from her writing she has no idea of what a happy marriage is.

I am not some lovelorn youngster who has to hang all over his girl in public. I have been happily married for 36 years. Four sons later and after 40 years of police service with the city of San Marino, I am still--possibly more--in love with my wife.

You bet I look across a crowded room to see if she is OK or comfortable.

I can still feel her presence when she enters a room even if I do not see her. I don’t need to confer with other men to know if I love my wife or not.

My wife and I have walked through many a briar patch together, but we held each other’s hand all the way until we got on a smooth road.

So let Robin walk around with her finger down her throat in a confused state, but if she has a warm, close marriage she will know it, and flip-top toothpaste will have nothing to do with it.

It does help to be nuts.
