Detroit Free Press Gives Deadline to Workers: The newspaper has given striking newsroom employees an ultimatum: Return to work in two days or be replaced for good. The word came in a letter to members of the Newspaper Guild of Detroit on the 26th day of the walkout against the Free Press and the Detroit News. Employees were given a deadline of 10 a.m. Thursday. Guild President Lou Mleczko said he is advising members to discard the letters, calling them “nothing more than a pre-planned corporate attempt to intimidate and terrorize” employees.
