FCC Postpones Auction: The Federal Communications Commission has postponed an Aug. 29 auction aimed at bolstering the participation of minorities and women in the new wireless technology know as personal communications services. The decision came after FCC efforts to revamp the auction to comply with a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling restricting affirmative action drew a court challenge from Omnipoint Corp. The company successfully argued that even though the FCC revamped its rules to erase the minority preferences, non-minority firms had not been given sufficient time to prepare to compete in the Aug. 29 auction. The FCC said it will announce a new auction date at a later time.
