Kashmiri Rebel Bomb Kills Indian Official
Kashmiri separatists exploded two bombs Thursday along a pilgrimage route taken by thousands of Hindus.
One of the blasts killed a state administrator, police and witnesses said. Police in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir state, said more than 15 people were wounded in the two blasts.
The Harkat-ul-Ansar guerrilla group claimed it killed 18 paramilitary soldiers and injured 90 other people Thursday in four attacks on the pilgrims. But the government denied the rebel claim.
About 70,000 Hindus are in the Pahalgam area for the pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave, where the Hindu deity Shiva is said to have lived.
