JERUSALEM — An Israeli man who confessed to robbing art galleries by threatening to infect workers with HIV was arrested in Tel Aviv on Monday, police said Tuesday.
They said the man, described as a 28-year-old drug addict, held up two galleries in Tel Aviv by waving a syringe full of what he said was blood tainted with the virus that causes acquired immune deficiency syndrome, or AIDS.
Last week, the man made off with a statuette worth $150, police said. On Monday, he was foiled when gallery owner Danny Pincus jumped on him. Pincus was stabbed with the syringe in the ensuing scuffle. The robber fled.
