Russian Grain Harvest May Drop 40%: Because of poor crops, drought and a shortage of harvesting equipment, the Russian agriculture ministry said, the harvest for wheat and corn may drop to between 45 million and 50 million metric tons from the previous estimate of 75 million to 78 million, the news agency Itar-Tass reported. “Experts from the ministry fear that in large agricultural areas, grain crops may be left ungathered at all, if the situation with supplies of fuels and lubricants to farmers does not change,” the news agency reported. A top U.S. Department of Agriculture official expressed skepticism over the prediction.
