Fraud Office to Question Ex-Trader: Britain’s Serious Fraud Office, which investigates complex financial crimes, mainly wants to establish whether Nicholas Leeson’s supervisors or others were also responsible for the trades that caused the collapse of the 232-year-old Barings bank in February, said Hans Eckert, spokesman for prosecutors in Frankfurt. Eckert said the request will be approved and that the prison interviews will probably take place in early September. A Frankfurt judge is expected to rule on an extradition request from Singapore. Officials in Bonn will then evaluate the judge’s decision. British authorities said they have no intention of seeking Leeson’s extradition to Britain.
