It Always Helps to Know What to Do

Lynn Smith is to be commended for her article “When You See a Parent Lose It, What Do You Do?” (Aug. 2) [about what to do if you see someone mistreating a child].

Unfortunately, too many people do nothing--and it’s not because they don’t care. They do. These people go home and tell their family or friends what they saw, how shocked they were and what they wished they had said or done.

Smith’s article brings to the forefront what most of us push to the back of our minds. The readers of her article should feel more confident in diffusing an abusive situation by remembering that the welfare of the child is always most important.

We all need to make America more child friendly.
