Polish Auto Maker Pursues Daewoo Over GM: The head of Poland’s second-largest car maker said his company is unlikely to resume talks with General Motors Corp. on a possible partnership even though he will meet with GM officials next month. The company, Fabryka Samochodow Osobowych, and GM are operating a small joint venture to assemble 10,000 Opel Astra cars and have talked about a larger partnership. However, FSO managing director Andrzej Tyszkiewicz said the company will now pursue a linkup with Daewoo Motors Co. of South Korea. “Negotiations with Daewoo now have top priority for us. The terms they offered us were the best,” he said. If the deal with Daewoo is signed, FSO will assemble about 20,000 of Daewoo’s Espero cars in 1996, Tyszkiewicz said.
