Fluor Corp.’s construction arm said Tuesday it has been awarded separate contracts to build a pair of power plants in the United States and to manage the $65-million renovation of a luxury hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Fluor Daniel said that Chevron U.S.A. Products Co. and GE Capital Corp. have hired it to build a 48-megawatt cogeneration power plant at Chevron’s refinery in El Segundo and that Union Carbide Corp. has retained it to oversee construction of a 220-megawatt cogeneration plant at a Union Carbide chemical facility in Taft, La.

In both cases, Fluor Daniel will provide engineering, procurement and construction services. Values of the contracts were not disclosed.

The El Segundo project is expected to provide about 200 construction jobs at its peak, but a Fluor spokeswoman said none of the contracts is expected to lead to increased hiring at the international engineering and construction services company’s Irvine headquarters.

In Jakarta, Fluor Daniel will provide construction management services to Jakarta International Hotel Development for the renovation of the Hotel Borobudur Inter-Continental. The renovation program, expected to be completed in October, 1996, will include major demolition, additions and upgrades to the 19-story, 800,000-square-foot building.

Fluor’s stock rose $1.50 a share to close at $59 in moderate trading Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange.
