THE WRIGHT STREET
A correction in Karen Grigsby Bates’ interesting article about Richard Wright (“The Fire the First Time,” Sept. 3) for those readers who might be inspired “to take the detour” to visit Wright’s flat at No. 14 or the restaurant Polidor down the street.
It will be a pretty big detour unless they go to rue Monsieur-le-Prince and not rue Maitre-le-Prince, as stated in the article. Try looking it up in your Paris Guide and you’ll see what I mean. Some other rue Monsieur-le-Prince residents also included James Whistler at No. 22, Longfellow at No. 49 and Oliver Wendell Holmes at No. 55.
As for the Polidor, it opened 150 years ago, its official name is Cremerie-Restaurant Polidor and Kerouac, Hemingway, Andre Gide and James Joyce, among others, have eaten there. The boeuf bourguignonne is great, the house wine is OK and its toilet has been declared a national monument.
