Los Cabos Hotels Close After Storm

Share

At least two hotels, the Palmilla and the Westin Regina Resort, closed last week when Hurricane Henriette battered tourist resorts in Los Cabos at the tip of Baja California.

The area around San Jose del Cabo, site of both hotels, appeared to be hardest hit by the storm that forced Los Cabos International Airport to close and wiped out electricity and telephone service for several hours. But at press time Wednesday, most telephones at lodgings in Los Cabos appeared to be working, and several sources said that roads apparently escaped serious damage.

The 71-room Palmilla Hotel was answering telephones on Wednesday, but was not accepting new guests. The hotel did not have electricity and had sustained broken windows and extensive damage to landscaping. It was planning to reopen on Saturday.

The 243-room Westin was assessing damages and, in a statement, said it will not be accepting new reservations until Monday.

A spot check Wednesday found many other accommodations open with services in operation, but reliable reports of damage were limited and travelers are advised to call their travel agents or hotel booking agencies to verify individual situations.
