Third Associate Turns Against Former UPI, FNN Boss: Mitchel Young, a former controller of Financial News Network, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy and agreed to cooperate with federal prosecutors in their case against the former chairman of FNN and United Press International, Earl W. Brian and his top aide, John F. Berentson. The two are charged with plotting to conceal FNN and UPI’s poor financial condition in the 1980s and ‘90s to obtain $56 million in bank loans. The other former executives who have pleaded guilty are C. Steven Bolen and Gary A. Prince.
