VENTURA : 24 Workshops Slated at Life Conference

A daylong series of workshops and seminars on relationships, family and communication issues will be held Saturday by the Ventura County chapter of the California Assn. of Marriage and Family Therapists.

The ninth annual “Spotlight on Life Conference for Men and Women” will run from 8 a.m. to 3:40 p.m. at Ventura College on Loma Vista Road in Ventura. Registration will be in the cafeteria.

At workshops and seminars led by marriage and family therapists working in Ventura County, dreams, step families, stress management, self-exploration through mask-making, parenting, self-expression through art for children and managing anger will be among the topics discussed. Those attending the conference will be able to attend three of 24 workshops and seminars.

“It’s very beneficial for anybody who comes,” said Wylee McCrary, a Ventura marriage and family therapist.

The featured speaker at 9 a.m. will be Peter Alsop, a lecturer, humorist, singer and songwriter. Alsop has written and recorded songs used by professionals to help people discuss sensitive issues such as abuse and drug and alcohol dependency.

In addition to the conference-wide speech, Alsop will perform a musical closing at 3 p.m. and offer a workshop for professional marriage and family therapists.

Cost is $30 per person and $45 per couple in advance, and $35 per person and $50 per couple at the door. The fee includes continental breakfast and box lunch.
