Prescription Requirement for Nicorette May End: A Food and Drug Administration advisory panel recommended that SmithKline Beecham’s Nicorette, a nicotine gum, be made available without prescription. The FDA typically follows the advice of its advisory panels. Nicorette has been available for more than a decade by prescription in the United States and more than a dozen other countries, and it is already available without a prescription in another 33 countries.
